If you believe an article on UKBullet.uk contains an error, a misrepresentation, or fails to meet our editorial standards, you have the right to raise a formal complaint. This page explains exactly how to do that, what information we need from you, how we will handle your complaint, and what you can expect from us at each stage. We take every complaint seriously and aim to resolve issues fairly and promptly.
How do I submit an editorial complaint to UKBullet.uk?
Send your complaint by email to complaints@ukbullet.uk. This is the only address we use for editorial complaints, and it is monitored by our standards team.
Please include the following details in your email:
- the full URL (web address) of the article you are complaining about
- the date the article was published
- the specific reason for your complaint (for example, factual inaccuracy, misleading headline, missing context, breach of our editorial standards)
- the exact statement or passage you challenge, quoted or clearly described
- any supporting evidence you have (documents, sources, screenshots, links)
- your full name and a contact email address or phone number so we can reply to you
You do not need to use a special form – a plain email with those details is enough. If you cannot include everything in one message, send what you have and we will follow up.
What happens after I submit my complaint?
We will acknowledge receipt of your complaint within five working days. The acknowledgement will come from our standards team and will include a reference number and the name of the person handling your case.
Our Standards & Fact-Checking Lead, Martin Hale (martin.hale@ukbullet.uk), will review the complaint. He will examine the article, the specific statement you challenged, any evidence you provided, and our internal records. If the complaint relates to a serious editorial matter – such as a potential breach of our code of conduct, a significant factual error that could mislead readers, or a question of editorial independence – it will be escalated to the Editor-in-Chief, Eleanor Price (eleanor.price@ukbullet.uk), for a final decision.
We aim to give you a substantive response within 15 working days of acknowledgement. If the investigation takes longer, we will let you know and give you a revised timeline. You will always receive a written explanation of our findings and any action we have taken.
How does the process work in practice?
Imagine a reader sees an article on UKBullet.uk titled “Government announces 2% council tax cap for 2025” and believes the figure is actually 3.5% based on the official budget document. The reader emails complaints@ukbullet.uk with the article URL, the publication date, the specific sentence they challenge, a link to the government’s published figures, and their contact details.
Within three working days, Martin Hale acknowledges the complaint. He checks the article against the official source, finds the figure was incorrectly transcribed during editing, and confirms the error. He then coordinates with the Politics & Public Affairs Editor, Hannah Wells, to issue a correction. The reader receives a full response within ten working days: an apology, a note that the article has been corrected and updated, and a link to the published correction on our corrections policy page. The reader’s name and original email are kept confidential.
What about corrections, privacy, or other issues?
This complaints procedure is specifically for editorial content – news articles, analysis, opinion pieces, explainers, and practical guides published on UKBullet.uk. For issues involving a correction that does not require a formal complaint, please refer to our corrections policy. If your concern relates to data protection, personal information, or how we use your data, please see our privacy policy. For general questions about our editorial standards and how we decide what to publish, read our editorial policy. If you are unsure which route to use, you can always email info@ukbullet.uk and we will direct you to the right team.
